Time is running out to apply for The 2016 New York City Coffee Masters.
Applications to compete in the fast-paced, multi-disciplinary global barista tournament will close 30 June.
The competition will return to The New York Coffee Festival from 16 to 18 September at the 69th Regiment Armory, 68 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, United States.
The inaugural Coffee Masters NYC was held in 2015 and won by Australia’s own Ben Morrow of Sensory Lab.
To apply for the second instalment of NYC Coffee Masters, simply follow these steps and bits of advice from the organisers Allegra Events:
- Videos must be a minimum of one minute and a maximum of two minutes in length
- You must present/introduce yourself and your Signature Drink recipe within the video
- You should demonstrate personality, pride, passion and professionalism
- The presentation of your Signature Drink recipe should be clear, informative and creative
- You should clearly demonstrate your knowledge and ability as a professional barista and coffee expert

The knockout format of Coffee Masters sees baristas from across the globe go head-to-head to demonstrate their skills in Cupping, Brewing, Latte Art, The Order Challenge, The Signature Drink and, in the event they make it through to the semi-finals, The Espresso Blend round. The six past-faced challenges are designed to emulate the busy working environment of a professional barista.
Critiquing the selected baristas on their skill, technique, timing, presentation, and creativity in the cup will be an impressive line-up of international judges including John Letoto of Greenway Coffee and Blacksmith in the United States, Anne Lunell of Koppi Roasters in Sweden, Dan Streetman of Irving Farm Coffee Roasters in NYC, David Donde of Truth Coffee Roasting in South Africa, and Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood of Colonna and Small’s in the United Kingdom.
The New York Coffee Festival is New York’s flagship coffee event, celebrating the city’s burgeoning specialty coffee scene. Now in its second year, the festival will feature live experiences from more than 70 coffee, food and equipment suppliers.
