Nestlé sets goal of 100 per cent recyclable or reusable packaging

Nestlé, the parent company of global coffee comapany Nespresso, has announced its goal to make 100 per cent of its packaging recyclable or re-usable by 2025. Its vision is that none of its packaging, including plastics, will end up in landfill or as litter. Nestlé said it believes there is an urgent need to minimise the impact of packaging on the environment.

Mexico hosts 121st International Coffee Council meeting

The official inauguration ceremony of the 121st International Coffee Council, the governing body of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), was held in Mexico City on 9 April. Officially launched by the Sub-Secretary Jorge Armando Narváez Narváez, this is the first time the Council has met in Mexico, a country that is in the forefront in the process of modernising its coffee sector. The meeting is the first since the United States announced its intention to withdraw from the International Coffee Agreement, effective on 3 June, 2018.

Global agricultural goods merchant Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has announced a US$50,000 donation (about A$64,500) to World Coffee Research (WCR) to boost coffee sustainability and support coffee farmers. WCR is a non-profit collaborative research and development program of the global coffee industry to grow, protect, and enhance supplies of quality coffee while improving the livelihoods of the families who produce it.

Australia’s Shinsaku Fukayama of St Ali is hoping to add to his winning streak when he competes in London Coffee Masters at The London Coffee Festival this week. ‘Shin’ was crowned the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) 2018 Australian Latte Art Champion at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo in March.
